Vermont|Sewn on the mend

Please excuse the temporary sparseness of this site. I was doing what I thought was a routine server move-around early this summer, and followed the backup directions just as I was told by the super smart tech guys. However, when it came time to restore all the files, all four+ years of scooterfix and girlbike scooter blog files got smished, as did the content of all the rest of my sites. Or at least so messed up that those super smart tech guys were never able to figure it out yet.

Thankfully, I have a relatively new backup of content, but a good number of images, code and the last couple of months of posts are gone, and it’s a very tedious process to port all that information since the database is so large. scooterfix/girlbike had just under 500 posts, not to mention all the reader comments, links, and images. An added challenge for me is that I do all the design and coding myself, and since I’m not a programmer, oftentimes my css is trial and error and not necessarily easy for me to recall or replicate.

scooter seat covers is completely intact and functional. It was down for about 20 hours due to this mess when it first happened, but I always keep a full back up of that content so there are no issues there.

Some of my other blog-based sites were also messed up in the backup, but they are more fixable. For example, scoot|pink‘s content was all intact with the exception of all its images, but after a late night and early morning repair marathon, most of them were replaced fairly quickly. scoot|green‘s may have had its design elements wiped out but I had a full content backup. I also took advantage of the mess to redesign it to match my other sites.

As for all of the content on Vermont|Sewn, I have no estimate when it will be all up again. It’s the busy season for scootering, and scooter seat covers customer orders have to come first. My customers are who buy my groceries and help to support this luxury of running so many scooter blogs simply for the love of scooters and its community.

Thank you for your continued support and patience. In the meantime, please do stop by some of my sites that are up and running:

Alix of P.E.A.C.E. Scooter update

Alix of P.E.A.C.E. Scooter is now on day 39 of the second round of her 20,000 mile peace journey. Yesterday’s post had Alix and her friend Shaun riding 201 miles up both the 101 and beautiful Highway 1 on the California coast, braving June Gloom and somehow surviving a surprise patch of deep gravel. And just by chance, this is the week that one of my donated scooter seat covers is up for raffle, so get over there and support the cause.

I started a new site with the intention to have it only be about my company, but as I was searching for area resources, I realized that no one place existed with information about products sewn in Vermont. So, I made one. Come on over to VermontSewn.com and all the cool stuff you can buy that is made in the great state of Vermont!

fluffy seats & special orders

Wow, is it already March? I can’t believe how time is flying by. Usually January and February are the slow times of year in the scooter seat cover business, but I’ve been steadily busy. So much so that I’ve had to temporarily limit making any covers that involve either fluffy fancy fabric like the one above, or those that involve special order fabric or fabric you want to provide.

Why? Well, for a couple of reasons. I love making you exactly what you want. But when a special order comes in, the entire queue slows down. Fuzzy fabric scooter seat covers take about twice as long to make as ‘regular’ covers, and when you want to send me a fabric you picked out, you usually have very specific requests that can make the process take up to three or four times as long.

The good news is that I’m in the process of trying to hire local help to assist with making scooter seat covers, specifically special orders and popular custom orders. My goal is to make it possible for every customer to get their scooter seat cover within three weeks, rather than the one to two months that it can take sometimes during the busy season.

So, if you’d like a super special fuzzy custom scooter seat cover, please bear with me! Ride safe!

scooter seat covers up on ebay; free shipping

Just a quickie post to let you know I have a few scooter seat covers up on ebay this week. All have a buy-it-now price of $10 off the retail price, and I’m offering free shipping for a limited time. Half of the selling price of the Honda Metropolitan scooter seat cover goes to Accident Scene Management, Inc., a non-profit with the mission to reduce injuries and fatalities to motorcyclists by learning what to do at the scene of a motorcycle crash until professional help arrives. Thanks for your support, and good luck!

I had to do it.

Nellie in her hunting-season finery.

I always put an orange bandana on our dog during hunting season in Vermont so she is seen by hunters (I put on hunter orange, too, when I walk her). Inspired by the upcoming new season of Project Runway, this morning I made Nellie this designer hunter-orange outfit so she doesn’t need to wear that dingy ol’ bandana any more. Dwayne won’t like it, but hey, a girl has to do what a girl has to do. The main fabric is orange paw-print velboa. Lined with orange and cream check fleece, this snappy doggy jacket easily goes from day to night with its reflective piping and faux-tiger collar. I think Tim Gunn would be proud.

p.s. No, I’m not going into business making dog jackets, I just needed a break from sewing scooter seat covers. :-)

nice sticker!

Did you know that every order of a scooter seat cover goes out with a free sticker included? Now you do.

scooter seat covers now made in Vermont

Scooter in Vermont
I’m sorry the blog has been so quiet! Scooter seat covers is now officially in Vermont, after a hectic search for a place to rent, hectic packing, a hectic move, and then hectic unpacking. The timing wasn’t that great as far as orders go, since it was right a the end of peak season and the queue for orders was already 4+weeks. I worked right up to last minute, but of course moving always takes more time and energy and cleaning than I think it’s going to!

Here are all the seats, all in a row in the new sewing studio. More pics to come!
